Vietnam Spring Rolls

Image
Last Saturday, I went to Joel's house. Aunty Yoong Hee prepared a special meal for us. There were sliced vegetables, fruits; meat, mee and spring roll skins provided on the table.  Aunty Yoong Hee taught us how to prepare our own Vietnam spring rolls. It was very simple:- 1. We must take a piece of spring roll skin and wet it thoroughly in a bowl of water. 2. We are thus able to place whatever ingredients that we desire on the wetted piece of spring roll skin (we cannot overload the amount of ingredients or else it will be too big or it will not fit). 3. Then, we are finally able to start wrapping the spring roll. I was placing some of my favorite ingredients on the wetted spring roll skin. My favorites were the fragrant, glutinous pork XD See! This is a complete Vietnam spring roll. Yummy!

30-01-2001 (Saturday) Aunt Cindy came to our house, my mum didn't cook at home so we went to Kajang Town to have dinner. Kajang is a famous "Satay Town", there is a lot of shops selling Satay. The old man is roasting the satay for us....... Special peanut sauce with or without sambal, ketupat (rice dumpling) and onions. I dipped the satay with the peanut sauce........ yummy!!! This shop is different with other shops because here you can get more choices, we ordered chicken, beef, mutton, duck and fish satay. This was my first time to try the duck and fish satay. My mum likes the duck satay which was marinated with a little bit of curry powder.... Dad and Aunt Cindy like mutton satay... I will prefer fish which was little bit sweet. We also ordered some otak-otak (fish paste wrapped with banana leaf). It was also our Malaysian favorite food.

Winter Solstice - Glutinous Rice Ball

My grandma told me "Glutinous Rice Balls(tong yun) " is the Winter Solstice special food, is a circle made with glutinous rice flour desserts. That is a meaning of reunion and fulfillment. On this day, we eat glutinous rice balls as a symbol of family harmony. My grandma filled some peanut into the balls, it was very tasty.   This year my mum is very busy, she didn't have time to prepare the glutinous rice ball, but she bought a pack of  the frozen glutinous rice ball which is filled with black sesame, I think I can try it this weekend :)

We used seaweed to make Sushi Humans' hair and eyes and we use crab meat to make the mouth . Sushi Bear's eyes, ears and nose are all made by seaweed. Finally, we sucessfully made few types of Sushi!
